Excited to announce that for the second year running Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) is hosting Gallery Takeover, with 8 artists work for sale in their Courtyard Gallery, the Core, Theatre Square, Touchwood, Solihull.
Open to the public from Tuesday 19 August to Saturday 30 August 2025, library opening times. See you there!
After an absorbing morning with @ruthmillington talking about her published works to date, we had time to chat and I put forward the idea of thinking time. We all agreed, visual artists and authoresses alike, that allowing oneself time to think was invaluable.
So often we feel obliged to rush, meet deadlines, fall in line with work ethics. If a wider understanding of time to think, it’s acceptance, and understanding of the benefits could become a norm I do believe that we would produce better, more thoughtful work!
This was particularly true for me when working on my large paintings for my solo exhibition last year. It was 9-5, and really 5.30 stop. But then frequently started again later in the evening after further contemplation! Most lunch times were really just making a sandwich, scrutinising the morning’s work, what should be done next and what areas of the canvas needed more yellow or more detail! It wasn’t always possible to wait till I finished eating lunch I was driven to get going again! Thinking time was invaluable. Do you agree?
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) has announced that it will fund a second Artist Take Over in their Courtyard Gallery, the Core, Theatre Square, Touchwood, Solihull, B91 3RG. From Tuesday 19 August to Saturday 30 August 2025. This is great news! Come and meet the artists displaying their 2D artwork for sale during this period. It’s a great opportunity to chat to fellow art lovers and purchase their artwork, greeting cards and other items to support the local artist community in the Borough.
What a wonderful summer to host the annual WOS! Thanks to all my friends, neighbours and students who have travelled to see my exhibition in the Warwickshire countryside!
The watercolour paintings have proved very popular with the theme of English Countryside Hedgerows, and associated gift cards both hand painted and printed.
The sun has streamed in as I’ve chatted to visitors, or sat and painted. It’s being an excellent use of time and situation.
Come and visit on our final weekend, there’s plenty to see!
